Janesin'

I really like this outfit. Even though I guess it could be considered a little "plain Jane".

Black shirt, black skirt, black leggings. Brown shoes. You know, just to mess with you.

I found this shirt the other day, when I found "The Unexpected Dress". It's super soft and a rad colour and the shape and material remind me of one of those awesome shirts you've had so long they're faded and threadbare.

I've seen some collections like that. But with 3 figure price tags, I'm gonna pass. Besides, I'd rather stick a shirt in the washing machine with a few rocks. You know, do it the old fashioned way. (Side note: Does this actually work? Did I just invent this? Does insurance cover washing machine damage?)

See Ya

OK gang, it's time...

The Man and I are headed Stateside for a couple of weeks to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary.

I've scheduled a few posts to keep you occupied while I'm away. Y'all play nice now, y'hear?

I Think I'll Call It..."The Unexpected Dress"

I picked up this new dress on Friday.

We're off to The States at the end of the week so when I headed into the City, I wasn't really planning on buying any new duds.

I'm saving all my deniro for foreign clothes.

But then I saw this dress. And it's just so dang cute. And the sleeves have this awesome ruffle underneath so they kinda stick out, but not in a shoulder pad way. I don't really understand it, but I knew I had to have it.

And, ahem, 2 new shirts as well...

Calvin & Girls Who Wear Red Lipstick

On my My Space page, back in the day, I had "Calvin and girls who wear red lipstick" listed as my heroes.

Calvin, is of course, Calvin of Calvin & Hobbes. That little dude and his dinner roll feet will be my hero forever.

And I'd always admired girls who wore red lipstick. They were so cool and they had this... air about them. I mean it seemed like such an achievement just to get it right.

Whenever I tried it out I looked a lot like one of those amusement park clowns jerkily turning back and forth with their giant red lips. It wasn't exactly the look I was after.

But then my pal Annie (who always looks amazing with her red lipstick) recommended I try her shade. And would you look at that? Now I'm a girl who wears red lipstick.

(Side note: I can see this will take some practice. I never knew how often I touched my lips until I discovered red smears all over my fingers. It's OK, I'm learning...)

Is This Good Bye?

I love this dress. I really do. I bought it in Melbourne back in April and wore it to my birthday dinner at La Quinta.

But there's something more to that last sentence. It wasn't all as easy as that.

You see what really happened is this: (and I'm gonna be honest here) I saw it on the rack at Dangerfield in Myer and immediately fell in love with it. Mustard. Floral. Perfect.

Oh, and it was on sale too.

So I whirled my way into the fitting room. Slipped the dress on and it was gorgeous! And it fit perfectly!...almost.

It was the same problem I'd come across time and time again. Everything fits, except for the bust. And I think, "Oh but it's so pretty. It's OK, I'll wear a singlet underneath". And I do, a few times. But it's still restrictive and I don't know about you, but I like to be able to breathe. And when it gets hot (and I live in QLD, hot is what it gets) that extra layer of clingy material is not in the least bit welcome.

So I have a dress that I can't wear without something over or under it. And after harrumphing around the bedroom last night getting ready for dinner I silently said to myself, "This is it. I'm not doing it anymore".

And then I said it not so silently to The Man when he was taking pictures. He was surprised, he knows I love the dress and he suggested I put it away until winter when I don't mind the layers. But to be honest, I've had enough.

I don't want to have a wardrobe filled with clothes I can only wear a certain way. I don't want to wear things that don't fit me properly. I don't want to dress in stuff that restricts my breathing.

Sure, I know I'll probably forget it all the instant I see the perfect pretty frock. But as long as I remember it all again, it'll be fine.

So I guess yeah, this is good bye.

To my mustard dress (and your friend's who'll be going too), I hope someone's eyes light up when they find you. And I hope you bring them big, deep lung-fulls of unrestricted happiness.

All Aboard!

As soon as I got this dress I knew I was gonna have to pair it with a baby T before too long.

Uh, hello? Spaghetti straps? Man I was hurtling back to 1994 so fast my ears were ringing.

Or maybe that was just the sound of the train whooshing past.

I forewent (I just typed "foregoed" then, yeah, definitely not a word) the docs in favour of some good ol' Converse.

Though to be honest, I reckon a pair of One Stars would have been a little more accurate. Or even a pair of Simple'sRemember them?

(Note: I have just spent the last 7 minutes looking up One Stars and Simple's. All aboard the memory train. Next stop tie-dyed slip dresses...)

Cactus Flower Hair

I got more colour put through my hair on Friday.

See?

When I was at the basin, the girl washing my hair said she had a cactus at home and the flowers were the exact colours I had in my hair.

She showed me a picture on her phone, and sure 'nuff, I have cactus flower hair.

I'm pretty happy with that. I like cactus. I like flowers.

I'd say it worked out pretty well.
